What can I do for families?

I am able to work with you and your child either at home, school, kinder or childcare. I also provide telehealth appointments as I know this is sometimes the most convenient way to meet. We can work on whatever is important to you.

Some examples of how and why we might connect:

Coaching
HPOT support parents in achieving goals for themselves and their children. Coaching is a collaborative, problem solving approach using the caregiver's knowledge of their home situation and the Occupational Therapists expertise. Caregivers are guided to identify and implement effective strategies for their families. Caregivers are the experts of their child, so it makes sense to use their knowledge, strengths, resources, and ideas to ensure strategies are a good fit for their home. When caregivers are feeling confident about what works for their children, they can create further developmental opportunities throughout the day. Coaching sessions can occur face to face or online. Coaching allows us to talk openly together to come up with solution focused goals.
School/Kinder/Childcare visits
I can help evaluate interactions with peers and educators, offering strategies to improve participation.
I can identify planning, organisation and problem solving skills to enhance a child’s ability to engage in tasks independently.
I can observe your child’s ability to navigate transitions between activities or locations within their environment and then offer personalised strategies to both the child and teaching team to support.
I can assess independence in self care activities such as toileting, dressing and mealtimes.
I can identify barriers in the physical environment and provide personalised strategies to create a more inclusive learning environment.
I can work on handwriting.
I will always encourage collaboration and information sharing where appropriate, to ensure consistent implementation of strategies and a common understanding for home and other settings.
I am also able to work with you to help explore whether a mainstream or specialist setting would fit your child best.
Assessments
An initial informal assessment will be used to get to know each child, inform therapy goals and future services. Sometimes we may need to conduct further informal and formal assessment to gather information. This information may be used for goal setting, progress monitoring or funding applications.
Reports
I can provide reports to help with funding applications, progress reports and observations reports. These can be shared with the child’s team, for example other medical professionals, NDIS and schools.
Telehealth
Services that can be provided via telehealth include parent coaching, educator coaching, meeting attendance, goal setting sessions and professional development.

Individual therapy
We can work together on your goals. These may include fine or gross motor skills, daily routines such as sleep, toileting, mealtimes, dressing, play, handwriting, attention and participation in school or pre school settings.

"I love working with families to set individualised goals and making a plan together on how to reach them."
